China servers downtime notice

We have just been notified by the datacenters we are using of temporary shut down at their level. There are basically tens of thousands of websites affected by this, including many of our clients hosted in China. While we are working with our datacenters to get our servers back as soon as network activity resumes, our only option is to wait since this is a government decision.

You can download the original message below (in Chinese) from here.

  1. Unfortunately until now the servers are still down. No word from datacenters on when the network will be turned back on. Below an article which explains better the situation (in Chinese only unfortunately):

  2. The Shanghai Telecom datacenters are still down. From the latest information we have received, on top of the previous reason provided, or maybe in order to justify this illogical shut down decision, the related datacenters are planning to do an audit of the websites hosted on each server as to whether they have an ICP license. Considering that there are tens of thousands of websites involved this can take days to complete if this turns to be true.

We have started to take measures to migrate shared hosting accounts to our servers at Netcom and in Jiangsu. For clients who do not have an ICP license, we recommend a direct migration to our Hong Kong server. This is for Linux servers. If you are a client of us and have a full backup of your site, please open a ticket at our website http://www.sinohosting.net requesting the setup of a new account so that your site can be back online. Please do not email as this will mean a longer processing time. Our admins will be handling support tickets as they come in, on a first-come first-served basis.

For clients on Windows plans, unfortunately, we do not have other Windows servers in mainland China. We can however set you up temporarily on our US Windows server. We are also preparing a Windows server in Hong Kong but it might not be fully operational before the end of he week end.

Some Linux clients are actually on a Netcom server (IP address 210.52.223.92) but because they use our main China DNS server(ns9.sinohosting.net / ns10.sinohosting.net) their sites are inaccessible as well. If you are in this situation, please open a support ticket as well to have our admins set you up on a different DNS server.

For VPS users unfortunately especially those in the 118.*.*.* range they can only wait for the datacenters to be back online.

Most of our dedicated servers are in Jiangsu province, so if you are a dedicated server owner you should not be affected by this issue.

We thank you for your understanding and do apologize for any inconvenience caused, however this is a situation beyond our control and is part of the hosting in China experience.
